Shin Tai (meaning "source body") is an evolution of shiatsu as developed by Saul Goodman (founder of the Int'l School of Shiatsu) that integrates eastern and western healing concepts. From a practical standpoint, Shin tai offers a greater range of tools for the practitioner to use with the appreciation that each individual responds to bodywork at a different energetic level.  A skilled practitioner will be open to which level presents access and shift the treatment focus accordingly.

Shin tai incorporates shiatsu, cranio-sacral, fascial, structural alignment, and chakra work to restore the body's primary information system... locating held areas of trauma and releasing them through the various levels of the body as they present themselves.  The most basic idea here being that a lot of energy is required to maintain trauma held anywhere in the body. Releasing old stress patterns recovers life force energy and allows the receiver to live more fully and energetically in the present!

Here is Saul's Shin Tai website, so that you may read his explanation.
