Yes, there are several things you can do to prolong the benefits of a shiatsu session.

First, it is important to take those few moments just after the session ends, before getting up from the mat or table, to relax. This helps facilitate the integration of the new information (created by my touch) into the nervous system. If possible, pay attention to anything you may notice, such as your breathing pattern, absence or presence of pain or tension, etc. Getting up slowly with the intention of maintaining a degree of mindfulness throughout your day, regardless of what activities are to follow, can give you information as to how your stress responses are now reacting to your usual routines.

Throughout your day, be sure to drink water, get some rest if it feels necessary and it is feasible, and it can be helpful to write a few notes about anything you might notice over the next few days: bodily sensations, how you carry yourself, any emotions that surface, if you find yourself responding to a typical situation differently, the dreams you have.  All of these things can give you information, which you don't need to know how to interpret, but it will begin the conversation between mind and body, and will be helpful in carrying the effects of a shiatsu session far beyond my office.

And of course, ultimately, examining your overall lifestyle habits, and making appropriate changes would go a long way toward ensuring shiatsu's active role as part of an overall wellness plan. Believe me, I know, changes can be hard to implement, especially in a busy life.  I am willing to offer support and guidance in choosing and sustaining habits that are sensible and workable... just ask!
