We've Made a Fine Connection

Post a Comment Feeling a bit low and under the weather, I was reluctant to go, but I suspected that being among my professional 'kin" might do me some good, and perhaps provide more healing than the pity party I was planning to attend lying in front of the tv.
My suspicions were confirmed.A slight mix-up in the advertised time of kick-off had half of us arriving an hour early, which made for a cozy, intimate group to hang with out for a bit. Some of the 'usual suspects' were there, and a few fresh faces too. I still was considering ducking out early, until I happened to trade intros with one Curtis Schmitt. As he was telling me about his time management and life coaching philosophy, which was less about juggling priorities and more about helping folks achieve inner peace with their life choices, I realized, yet again, that we were ultimately engaged in the same pursuit, and how cool is that? Sharing a mutual "aha!" moment gave me enough energy to hang out for another hour.
The "formal" part of these events consists of everyone present sitting in a circle, and giving an introduction. This being the fourth of these YL gigs I've attended, I was amused to hear the current request to keep our intros limited ..whittled down from the previous "tell us all about what you do", to the "two-minute elevator speech", and now to just "name, modality, and location".
Because, you know, we holistic types are passionate about what we have to offer. And we will gladly talk about it for as long as you let us. But with 30 people in the room, ya gotta draw the line somewhere.
Once again, I found myself gazing around the room, seeing so many healing languages represented, and feeling appreciative to be a part of this growing community. I would say that we are becoming a formidable force to be reckoned with. The world is changing. Paradigms are shifting, and we are there supporting the process by which people are discovering their own truths about health and wholeness.
And this was what these events were about. Becoming visible to each other. Unifying as a community. Developing relationships and support systems. This process serves us, and it serves our clients. Because, hey, you have an issue that shiatsu just isn't speaking to? Well, I know 50 other people that might be able to help you out. I know them, and I trust them.
In the coming months, I hope to introduce some of them to you as well... for example, you can look for Curtis to make an appearance here soon. One connection of many.
